I’m going to make a youtube video entitled

"Shit ALL men say”

and it will consist only of the phrase “But not all men say that~!!”

And then I’ll wait for men to stare at their keyboards in utter distress as they contemplate the paradox of their intense desire and desperation to inform me that not all men say that.

I will break them.

dont worry kiddo, when tumblr is telling you youre a piece of shit for existing as who you are, you can just log off and go back to your life of luxury

No, stop. No one ever has or ever will say that privilege means you don’t have any problems, stop deliberately misinterpreting what people are saying to victimize yourself. “Tumblr has taught me to be ashamed of my privilege.” Shut the fuck up, if that’s what Tumblr taught you, you clearly weren’t listening. No one needs your shame. What we want is your anger against the system that favours you for some trait you had no control over, like your gender, or the colour of your skin.

You can be dealing with a lot of shit in your life and still carry some kind of privilege, and no one is going to ~hate~ you for that until you start inserting yourself into discussions that aren’t about you. When POC are talking about the struggles they face, and a white person comes in with “but I have problems too!!” that is derailing. No one said you didn’t. What you’re doing is inconsiderate and unnecessary. It’s not about you. It doesn’t always have to be about you. And when someone points out that you have a certain kind of privilege, that doesn’t mean your life is problem-free.

Most of us combine having privilege with also being at some sort of disadvantage. In my case, I’m at a disadvantage for being female and mentally ill among other things, for example, and yet I’m still white and I still come from a middle-class family. I’ve faced my fair share of problems in life, and thankfully I’m capable of realizing that when someone points out I have privilege, they’re not attacking me, jfc. I do my best to be proactive when it comes to recognizing my privilege because I don’t want to perpetuate the system that favours me over others for reasons other than merit. Privilege doesn’t mean “no struggles.” All it means is “there are certain struggles I will never face.” Like racism, in my case.

This comic is ridiculous and you the person who made it should feel ashamed for using abuse to derail conversations about privilege and oppression when they could have talked about and drawn attention to abuse itself.

let me break it down for you white boy. yes we all have problems, from the point we came flying out of our mother’s vaginas we were laden with the harsh reality of life sucks but you have to make lemons out of this lemonade.

BUT HERES A BASIC EXAMPLE OF PRIVILEGED FOR THOSE LIKE YOU WHO DONT UNDERSTAND THAT MANY WORDS IN THE ENGLISH LANGUAGE ARE USED TO DESCRIBE DIFFERENT SITUATIONS. When people say that you are privileged they dont mean you are successful and happy they mean this:

you are a white male I am a black female. if you and I were to both wear a white button down shirt, black pants, and black shoes just so we have a control in this science experiment and then walk into Saks fifth avenue, someone would ask YOU if you are looking for a gift for your wife and tell ME that the sale section is in the back. They would flirt and laugh WITH YOU and then have the security guard FOLLOW ME.

We’re not asking you to feel guilty of your privileged you cannot control being a white man as much as I can control that my eyes are brown, BUT YOU CAN BE AWARE OF IT. BE AWARE that doors will be opened for you even if its a fucking job at McDonalds BECAUSE YOU ARE WHITE, realize in this world you are absolute, you are default, you are what everything else is compared to. You are not the exception, you are the rule. Realize that you can save up, go to college, move out, and start and new life outside of your family issues and people will not question every step you make. You can move wherever the fuck you want and no one will give a flying fart. No one said being privileged meant you were “better” it just is what it is as much as they sky is blue. Just because the sky is blue does not make the air clean.

OH AND ONE MORE THING, the fact that you were able to draw this comic post it on tumblr and get recognition from it, and have people question and feel sorry for you is yet another example of your privilege. I wear a tshirt that says “black girls rock” and suddenly I’m a racist! bye

dont ask me for relationship advice because i will always just tell you to break up w/ them and throw their shit in a dumpster because i do not understand the concept of allowing anyone to treat you poorly this is a zero tolerance zone
